SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Utah Fraternal Order of Police is urging for a review of the missing parolee with a history of gun offenses who fatally shot an officer working overtime to pay for his cancer treatments.
The union representing law enforcement statewide said police and the public want to know what safeguards failed to allow 31-year-old Cory Lee Henderson on the streets.
Henderson on Sunday shot 44-year-old Unified police Officer Douglas Barney in the head after walking away from a crash in Holladay.
A gunfight with backup officers then left Henderson dead and Officer Jon Richey wounded.
Henderson violated parole in June after serving 14 months in prison and was sent to a drug treatment center after he was recaptured in October. He again became a fugitive in December after disappearing from rehab.
