CHARLOTTE, Mich. (AP) - A woman charged in the 2014 death of her 76-year-old mother who lived with her at a Lansing-area hotel has pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter.
The Lansing State Journal reports (https://on.lsj.com/1QlDInO ) Robin Sanford faces sentencing in March. She was charged with murder and vulnerable adult abuse in the death of Nancy Belen, who lived at a Red Roof Inn in Eaton County’s Delta Township.
A plea agreement was reached last week with prosecutors.
Belen had bed sores, a skin infection and liver failure. She died in January 2014 at a hospital. Sanford’s son, Tyler, was also charged in Belen’s death, but those charges were previously dismissed.
Defense attorneys argued they were relatives and roommates of Belen’s with no legal responsibility to get her medical care she didn’t want.
