ALLEN PARK, Mich. (AP) - A suburban Detroit bus driver has been charged with misdemeanor assault after authorities say he threw ice at children and hurt one.

Patrick Brennan was arraigned Thursday afternoon in Allen Park on two charges of fourth-degree child abuse. Wayne County prosecutors say he became angry and threw the ice at the Allendale Elementary School children, who were yelling and misbehaving Tuesday afternoon on a bus.

Authorities say the ice hit an 11-year-old girl, who wasn’t among the misbehaving children, and it cut her face. She was treated at home.

No attorney is listed in court records for the 63-year-old Brennan. A judge encouraged him to consult with a lawyer before entering a plea.

A hearing was set for Feb. 1.

The school is in the Melvindale-Northern Allen Park School District.
