ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) - A jury has convicted a pregnant St. Paul woman of fatally stabbing her boyfriend last summer but found the killing was not intentional.
The Star Tribune (https://strib.mn/23hP5lM) reports 34-year-old Natalie Pollard was convicted of second-degree unintentional murder. Jurors acquitted Pollard of second-degree intentional murder.
The defense maintained that Pollard acted in self-defense when she killed 30-year-old Obinna Udo Nwankpa on July 2.
Assistant Ramsey County Attorney Susan Hudson argued that Pollard had a history of being violent with Nwankpa.
Police were called about a domestic dispute and found Nwankpa unconscious and bloody at the bottom of the basement stairs. He died at a hospital.
Pollard says Nwankpa showed up at her town home, broke in and attacked her, so she stabbed him.
Sentencing is scheduled for March 10.
