MINEOLA, New York (AP) - A 22-year-old Florida woman has been charged with a hit-and-run crash on Long Island that killed a bicyclist.
Newsday reports (https://nwsdy.li/1PIDeTS ) that Melissa McKiski of Venice, Florida, was arraigned Thursday on Long Island.
McKiski faces charges of manslaughter, vehicular manslaughter and leaving the scene of an accident, as well as driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs.
Prosecutors say McKiski was driving a sport utility vehicle in Carle Place around 12:30 a.m. on Oct. 1 last year when she veered out of the center lane and hit 22-year-old Charles Velasquez who was riding a bicycle.
The Bellerose, Long Island, man was pronounced dead at a hospital.
McKiski is due in court next month.
It wasn’t immediately known if she has a lawyer who could comment on the charges.
