ST. LOUIS (AP) - The Missouri Historical Society says the Soldiers Memorial museum in St. Louis will close Feb. 28 for a two-year renovation project.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports (https://bit.ly/1ndk6GE ) the historical society took control of the downtown memorial last year after planning the $30 million renovations.
Society president Frances Levine said Thursday a closing ceremony will be held Feb. 28. The museum is scheduled to reopen in 2018.
The project’s focus will be redoing the museum’s interior. Outdoor improvements will include better lighting.
The complex was built in 1935 to honor of World War I veterans. President Franklin Roosevelt spoke at the monument’s dedication in 1936.
Designers are still planning potential exhibits for the redesigned museum after it reopens.
