CALIFORNIA, Pa. (AP) - California University of Pennsylvania is cutting seven non-faculty positions two years after it eliminated 30 jobs.
The cuts in 2014 came in response to falling enrollment.
School spokeswoman Christine Kindl wouldn’t say if the new round of furloughs were also linked to enrollment, which has declined from nearly 9,500 in 2011 to more than 7,800.
In 2014, 16 nonunion employees were furloughed and another 14 positions were eliminated by attrition.
At least one of the new furloughs is drawing some backlash.
Some students and alumni are urging the school not to furlough Kay Kutz, assistant director of the Cal U Women’s Center, in April. Kindl says the center will continue providing women’s services, and says Kutz and the others aren’t being furloughed due to performance.
