LAS VEGAS (AP) - Authorities say a 35-year-old man wounded in a Las Vegas police shooting faces multiple felony auto theft, assault and weapon charges.
Records show that Gilberto Gutierrez also faces a misdemeanor possession of burglary tools charge when he’s released from a hospital.
Police say Gutierrez had a gun when he was shot a little before 3 p.m. Tuesday after a report of a stolen vehicle led to a police chase near Washington Avenue and Marion Drive.
Gutierrez is accused of abandoning the car and trying to elude officers in a neighborhood near Bonanza and Pecos roads.
Police say Gutierrez pointed the gun at pursuing officers before an officer opened fire.
The name of the officer wasn’t immediately disclosed. He’s on paid leave pending departmental and district attorney reviews of the shooting.
