NANTY GLO, Pa. (AP) - Police say a central Pennsylvania man stabbed his grandmother with a syringe while they argued about his drug use.

Forty-one-year-old James Machuta Jr., of Nanty Glo, remained in the Cambria County jail on Wednesday, unable to post bond on aggravated assault, drug paraphernalia and other charges.

Police say Machuta stuck her foot with the needle before stomping on her foot several times Monday..



According to a criminal complaint, a witness told police Machuta has hepatitis C and beats his grandmother when he can’t find drugs.

Police charged him with possessing drug paraphernalia after finding empty drug needles, heroin bags and other items.

Machuta’s grandmother told police she doesn’t want drugs in her house and is trying to get help for her grandson.

Online court records don’t list a defense attorney.
