LEXINGTON, Mass. (AP) - State police say a man was killed after a wheel came loose from a pickup truck driving south on Route 128, flew over the median and smashed into a northbound vehicle.
The accident happened around 1:15 p.m. Tuesday in Lexington after the left back wheel of a Dodge Ram pickup broke off the truck’s rear axle.
The tire flew over the concrete median barrier and bounced off an SUV driven by a 50-year-old Braintree man before striking the victim’s Toyota Camry on the windshield and roof. The man, identified Wednesday as 26-year-old Charles Hu, died at the scene.
The death remains under investigation and it has not been determined whether the driver of the pickup, a 19-year-old Amesbury woman, will face charges. No one else was hurt.
