MACON, Ga. (AP) - A jury has found a Macon mother guilty of murder and child cruelty following the death of her child.

The Macon Telegraph (https://bit.ly/1PlBqUZ ) reports 26-year-old Jameshia Reid was sentenced Thursday to serve life behind bars without the possibility of parole.

Reid had been accused of fatally beating her 3-year-old son in May 2013. Reid’s girlfriend, Latonya Sanders, was on the phone with a natural gas company representative during the incident. The call was recorded and jurors listened to the audio multiple times during the four-day trial.

Reid testified that the child she was yelling at during the call was her younger daughter, not her 3-year old son.

She admitted Wednesday that she struck the boy with a flip flop shoe, but she told jurors she didn’t kill her son.
