CONWAY, Texas (AP) - A Texas Panhandle traffic stop has yielded $3 million worth of methamphetamine hidden in the frames of religious-themed pictures.
The Texas Department of Public Safety on Thursday announced two people were arrested during the stop near Conway while bound for Georgia.
A DPS trooper on Tuesday morning pulled over the vehicle for a traffic violation on Interstate 40, in an area about 25 miles east of Amarillo.
The trooper found 27 bundles of methamphetamine, about 35 pounds, inside the structure of several picture frames portraying images of religious figures.
The driver and the passenger, both from Tijuana, Mexico, face felony charges of possession of a controlled substance.
Investigators believe the meth was being hauled from Mexico to Atlanta.
