LAS VEGAS (AP) - A judge set bail at $77,000 for a 35-year-old man who faces multiple felony auto theft, assault and weapon charges after being wounded by a veteran Las Vegas police officer.

A Feb. 16 preliminary hearing was set for Gilberto Gutierrez, who also faces a misdemeanor possession of burglary tools charge.

Police say Gutierrez had a gun when he was shot a little before 3 p.m. Tuesday after a police chase in a stolen vehicle and on foot in a neighborhood east of downtown Las Vegas.

Police say Gutierrez pointed the gun at police before Officer Samuel Solorio shot him near Bonanza and Pecos roads.

The 39-year-old Solorio is a 17-year police veteran. He’s on paid leave pending departmental and district attorney reviews of the shooting.
