AMARILLO, Texas (AP) - A former employee with the Pantex Federal Credit Union in the Texas Panhandle must serve 2½ years in prison for embezzlement since 1996.

Dorothy Stegall Barnes of Fritch was sentenced Friday by a federal judge in Amarillo.

The 57-year-old Barnes, also known as Dorothy Stegall Newman, last September pleaded guilty to embezzling from a federally insured credit union. She must also repay nearly $800,000.

Barnes formerly was the assistant vice president of teller operations at the Pantex Federal Credit Union in Borger, about 40 miles northeast of Amarillo.

Investigators say the scam surfaced in late 2014 when another teller suddenly quit and an audit was done.
