SHREVEPORT, La. (AP) - Police have captured an inmate who fled while being guarded at University Health hospital in Shreveport.

KSLA-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1KjHPzD ) 25-year-old Byron Hardy of Shreveport was found about 5:30 p.m. Saturday inside a vacant apartment.

Shreveport police Cpl. Marcus Hines says Hardy was bitten by a police canine in the process of being apprehended.

Hardy was at the hospital for treatment of an undisclosed medical condition when he fled just after 1 p.m. Saturday. Hardy had been held at the Shreveport City Jail since Jan. 26 on felony charges of home invasion, burglary of an inhabited dwelling and domestic abuse battery.

Hines says Hardy has been booked into the city jail on an additional charge of escape. It isn’t immediately clear if he has an attorney.
