KEOKUK, Iowa (AP) - Police in Keokuk are working with authorities in Hamilton, Illinois to see if early morning home invasions by armed masked intruders in the two cities are related.

Keokuk Police Chief David Hinton says 32-year-old Ian Keefe was found in a home in Keokuk early Thursday morning shot three times. Two dogs also were shot. Hinton says two masked suspects were seen fleeing the home in a car at about 1 a.m.

A similar incident was reported about a half hour earlier in Hamilton, which is located on the Illinois side of the Mississippi River across from Keokuk.

In Hamilton, armed masked suspects forced their way into an apartment, demanded money and fled.

A Keokuk Area Hospital spokeswoman did not immediately respond to an inquiry into Keefe’s condition.
