PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Police are investigating after a North Providence man suffering from a gunshot wound to his neck arrived at Rhode Island Hospital by private vehicle.

The Providence Journal reports (https://bit.ly/1mE4psh ) that police were notified of 24-year-old Nick Perez’s arrival around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. Ten minutes later, police received initial reports of a shooting in Providence’s Elmwood neighborhood that they believe is linked to Perez’s injury.

Lt. Roger Aspinall says Perez is in stable condition and is cooperating with investigators.

Officers dispatched to the scene of the shooting found two shell casings outside a home on Congress Avenue.

Aspinall says a black sport-utility vehicle was seen speeding from the scene after the shots were fired. No arrests have been made.
