PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - A popular bicycle race is moving from Rhode Island to Connecticut.

The KMC Cyclo-cross Festival announced on Twitter that it’s moving to the Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park in eastern Connecticut.

The event was founded in 2009 as the Providence Cyclo-cross Festival. It was held each autumn in the city’s Roger Williams Park.

This year’s festival is scheduled for Sept. 30 to Oct. 2 in Connecticut.

Also on Wednesday, Providence Mayor Jorge Elorza is scheduled to open a new off-road bicycle area at Roger Williams Park. A spokeswoman for the mayor says the site has been in the planning for weeks and is unrelated to the festival’s departure.
