COVINGTON, Tenn. (AP) - A West Tennessee grandmother has been charged in the deaths of her granddaughters in a fire this spring.

WMC-TV (https://bit.ly/29SWvHb ) reports Linda Dunavant of Covington was indicted on charges of first-degree murder, aggravated arson, aggravated child neglect and aggravated assault.

The fire happened around 3 a.m. on April 1. The 6-month- and 1-year-old girls were trapped inside when firefighters arrived. They were taken to a hospital but died of their injuries.

The girls’ mother, Jessica Cunningham, said she wasn’t home when the fire broke out but saw the flames and rushed home to try to save the girls.
