WEST POINT, Miss. (AP) - Clay County sheriff’s deputies say a couple has been arrested on charges related to the sexual abuse of children.

The Commercial Dispatch reports (https://bit.ly/29b15i9 ) deputies arrested 42-year-old Wilber Shepard of Pheba, Mississippi, on June 24; and that his wife, 35-year-old Tammy Shepard, was arrested Wednesday.

Wilber Shepard was charged with 10 counts of sexual battery of a child and two counts of rape of a child. Tammy Shepard was charged with rape and accessory after the fact.

Sheriff Eddie Scott says three children are in protective custody and that they will be questioned by child psychology experts who will give investigators more details of the alleged crimes.

Wilber Shepard was arraigned Tuesday and his bond set at $1.2 million. Both are in the Clay County Detention Center.
