LAS VEGAS (AP) - Nevada state Sen. Ruben Kihuen took the stage at the Democratic National Convention to decry Donald Trump in both English and Spanish.

The Democratic congressional candidate told the audience Thursday that he came to the U.S. from Mexico when he was 8 years old. He said he’s the son of a housekeeper and a former farm worker who took advantage of public schools to learn English and get a degree.

Kihuen slammed Trump for saying Mexican immigrants are rapists and criminals, and said the Republican nominee incites fear in others.

The lawmaker added that “He must be terrified of me, a Mexican immigrant running for Congress.”

Kihuen has served in the Legislature for a decade and is seeking to unseat freshman Republican Rep. Cresent Hardy.
