ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) - Anchorage police say a woman jogging on a trail near an Anchorage high school was attacked from behind but managed to fight off the suspect.

Police say the attack was an attempted sexual assault.

The attack occurred early Wednesday night in a wooded area of the trail system south of Bragaw Street and Northern Lights Boulevard near East High School.

The woman describes the attacker as a slim, black male in his late teens or early 20s with short hair.

The woman says the man attempted to overpower her but she fought him off and sought assistance from another person nearby.

The suspect fled on foot.

Police say they are actively investigating the case and seeking tips from the public.
