WEST JORDAN, Utah (AP) - A West Jordan City Council member has been cited for leaving the scene of an accident last week.

South Jordan police cited Jeff Haaga for a July 19 incident in which witnesses say he backed his car into a parked vehicle while intoxicated. Lt. Matt Pennington says the department decided against charging the city councilman with a drunken driving offense.

Police say Haaga was leaving a bar when a group of men took away his keys, fearing he was intoxicated. Haaga used a spare set of keys to drive home.

On body camera video from when officers arrived at Haaga’s home, he says the men who took his keys “assaulted” him and that he has “protection” as a government official.

Haaga did not respond to requests for comment.
