IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) - Iowa City Police say a man who worked as a groomer at a veterinary clinic kicked dog and broke several ribs.

The Iowa City Press-Citizen reports (https://icp-c.com/2anjo6m ) the 22-year-old man was ticketed for animal neglect and fired from his job after the incident. He will make his initial court appearance in late August.

The dog had to be kept under observation at an emergency veterinarian for several days afterward. The dog suffered several broken ribs and bruised lungs.

The owners of the Creature Comfort Veterinary Center says as soon as they learned of the incident, the man was fired.
