He’s played the captain of the starship Enterprise, the leader of the X-Men and Ebenezer Scrooge. Now English actor Patrick Stewart is trying his hand at singing old-time country music.

While Mr. Stewart’s promotional video for “Cowboy Classics Volume 1 and 2” is a tongue-in-cheek homage to as-seen-on-TV ads promoting eccentric musical offerings, the project is a serious effort to raise money and awareness for International Rescue Committee, a refugee relief charity, Entertainment Weekly reported Tuesday.

Appropriately enough, “Don’t Fence Me In,” is one of the tracks Mr. Stewart performs on the $10 CD available for purchase online at CDBaby.com.

A veteran of the Royal Shakespeare Company in Britain, Mr. Stewart raised eyebrows in the entertainment industry in 1987 when he took command of the USS Enterprise in the syndicated series “Star Trek: The Next Generation.”
