SCITUATE, R.I. (AP) - A Richmond man has been arrested in what appears to be the random killing of a West Greenwich man.

Authorities said Wednesday that Christian Lepore is charged with murder in the slaying of 63-year-old John O’Neil.

Police say O’Neil called 911 Saturday afternoon after the 34-year-old Lepore appeared at his home. Police don’t believe the two men knew each other.

Responding officers found Lepore standing over O’Neil’s body. Police say he was beaten to death. They say Lepore was erratic and may have been on drugs.

Lepore is a cook’s helper at the nearby W. Alton Jones campus of the University of Rhode Island, where he has worked since 2007. The school is cooperating with the investigation.

Lepore is being held without bail. It’s unclear if he has an attorney.
