PHOENIX (AP) - A Peoria woman has been sentenced for falsely obtaining more than $11,000 in food stamps.
The state Department of Economic Security says Venny Jeannie Ferrell was sentenced earlier this month in Maricopa County Superior Court to two years’ supervised probation.
The sentence is part of an agreement in which Ferrell pleaded guilty to unlawful use of food stamps.
She is also required to pay $11,180 in restitution and perform 40 hours of community service.
The DES Office of Inspector General determined that Ferrell was gainfully employed yet used false information to apply for various benefits.
She received benefits from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program and Temporary Assistance for Needy Families between April 2011 and May 2012.
She was initially charged in June 2015 with five counts including theft.
