JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) - The FBI is reviewing a Florida sheriff’s office investigation into the shooting of an unarmed man by a deputy following a high-speed chase that ended in a crash.

The Florida Times-Union reports (https://bit.ly/1UHBVK0 ) that FBI Special Agent in Charge Michelle Klimt said Friday her office is reviewing the fatal shooting of 22-year-old Vernell Bing Jr. by a Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office deputy.

Bing, a black man, was shot in May by a white deputy, Tyler Landreville. Klimt says the FBI’s review will determine if any federal civil rights violations occurred.

Police say Bing was driving a stolen car when he crashed into Landreville’s cruiser, ending a high-speed chase.

Police say Ladreville fired the fatal shots after Bing exited the car.

The state attorney’s office is also investigating the case.
