AVON PARK, Fla. (AP) - Polk County deputies have arrested a Florida corrections officer for failing to appear in court on animal cruelty charges.

Fox 13 WTVT reports (https://bit.ly/1U1uX0n) 31-year-old Michael Granger was charged with animal cruelty in March after a neighbor saw him punch his own German Shepherd while trying giving it a bath. The neighbor saw Granger throw the dog to the ground. The dog was treated for its injuries.

Deputies charged Granger with misdemeanor Animal Cruelty, and issued a notice to appear in court on June 10th.

When Granger didn’t show up, deputies served him with an arrest warrant and booked him into jail. He was released Friday on $500 bond. It’s unclear if he’s retained an attorney.

Granger is employed as a corrections officer with the Florida Department of Corrections.
