LAS VEGAS (AP) - Police in Las Vegas say they’re putting more officers on the Strip and around nightspots, following the deadly shooting at a club in Orlando, Florida.
Assistant sheriffs Todd Fasulo and Tom Roberts say department officials have contacted nightclub industry and LGBT community leaders about increasing visits to venues catering to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender customers.
They say officers are being redeployed and assigned additional shifts, and the department is reaching out to mosques.
Police say that might mean people will see officers where they don’t normally see them.
Officials say the city hasn’t received any specific threats.
But police and federal officials are meeting about counterterrorism measures in the area.
The shooting at a gay club in Orlando left at least 49 people dead and more than 50 wounded.
