MESA, Ariz. (AP) - Authorities say a Mesa man is accused of fatally shooting the father of his grandson.

Mesa police arrested 43-year-old Larry Grant Gentry at the apartment complex where the shooting occurred Sunday.

Gentry is being held on suspicion of second-degree murder.

Bond was set at $750,000 at Gentry’s initial court appearance Monday. He doesn’t have a lawyer yet for his case.

Police say Gentry told detectives that his daughter and the victim had a 5-month-old son together.

Gentry says his wife sometimes looked after the baby and was concerned about supposedly suspicious injuries to the child.

That led to an argument in which Gentry’s daughter allegedly was pushed by her boyfriend.

Gentry told police he shot the victim several times when he felt threatened when the man continued walking toward him.
