A leader of the #NeverTrump movement attempted to cause a flap on Flag Day by accusing Donald Trump of disrespecting Old Glory when he gave it a big hug and a kiss — but Ronald Reagan did the same thing.

Bill Kristol, the founder and editor of the conservative Weekly Standard who has become the face of the GOP establishment’s #NeverTrump campaign, hit Mr. Trump on Twitter with a photo showing the likely Republican presidential nominee embracing and pressing his lips to the American flag.

“Today is Flag Day. Here’s the presumptive GOP nominee failing to respect the flag,” tweeted Mr. Kristol.

And yet, Mr. Kristol’s hero Mr. Reagan was famously captured planting a wet one on the American flag.

The famous photograph shows Mr. Reagan standing beside first lady Nancy Reagan and taking hold of the flag to give it a kiss. The photograph is offered for sale on several websites, including one that touts it as among “the best of photos of the 40th U.S. president.”
