MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Montgomery police say an officer accused of sexually assaulting a man while he was on duty is being held in the Montgomery County jail.

Department of Public Safety Spokeswoman Martha Earnhardt said in an emailed statement that police began investigating allegations against 27-year-old officer Deonte Lashawn Hamner on Tuesday.

Authorities say Hamner is accused of sexually assaulting a man after stopping his vehicle to investigate a noise complaint.

Authorities say Hamner is charged with sodomy and is being held on $60,000 cash bond. It’s unclear if he has an attorney.

Earnhardt says Hamner graduated from the academy in 2014 and is on administrative leave.
