RENO, Nev. (AP) - Fire crews are mopping up after a brush fire south of Reno that burned about 40 acres of grass and sagebrush near U.S. Interstate 580 in Pleasant Valley.

Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District Chief Charles Moore says no homes or structures were threatened by the blaze.

He says the flames were as high as 10-feet tall when crews responded to the fire shortly after 7 p.m. Tuesday near the Galena bridge. But he says the fire never spread into the neighboring timber and never got close to any residences.

More than 50 firefighters were on the scene at one time.

Moore said Wednesday they were continuing to monitor potential hot spots.
