COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) - Police in Colorado Springs shot and killed a man they say approached them with an alcoholic drink in one hand and a gun in the other.

The Gazette reports (https://goo.gl/ubMYxm ) officers were responding to 911 calls about the 25-year-old man and confronted him in a convenience store parking lot on the city’s southeast side Wednesday morning.

Natalie Sosa, a spokeswoman for the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office, says the man was shot after he pointed a gun at an officer and refused to obey a command to drop the weapon. The man, whose name has not been released, died at a hospital.

The officer who fired the fatal shot has been placed on paid administrative leave. Sosa did not say how many officers were involved in the call or how many fired shots.
