HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) - The Hattiesburg City Council has voted 4-0 to hire a Jackson accountant to conduct a full audit of the city municipal court, including evaluating the current accounting system, to determine why necessary records for audit have not been provided in a timely matter.
About two weeks ago, The Hattiesburg American reports (https://hatne.ws/28ODY07 ) a Ridgeland auditing firm sent a letter to council stating the court’s 2015 audit had been delayed because of incomplete summary reports, with the most critical of those being Municipal Court fines and expenditures of federal awards.
The new audit will entail interviewing personnel; reviewing available documentation, management structure and flow of information; and conducting discussions with the city’s current auditors to review prior year management letters issued by the auditor. The results of the audit will then be documented in a formal report.
