A prominent group of national pro-life leaders is calling for the House to take decisive action against Planned Parenthood in the wake of new evidence suggesting the nation’s largest abortion provider broke the law.

Addressed to Speaker Paul D. Ryan and other House leadership on Thursday, the letter calls for taxpayer funding directed at Planned Parenthood to be reassigned to federally qualified health centers that do not provide abortions.

It points to documents uncovered by the Energy and Commerce Committee’s Select Investigative Panel purporting to show that Planned Parenthood sold fetal body parts from abortions for profit. Planned Parenthood has denied the charge.

One of the documents shows Planned Parenthood Mar Monte contracting with for-profit fetal tissue procurement firm StemExpress, which agreed to pay the clinic $55 per organ harvested from abortions.

Emails uncovered during the course of the investigation also indicate the relationship between Planned Parenthood and StemExpress was a commercial one, the letter said.

One of the emails, from a StemExpress official, reads: “i also wanted to put in another order of 4 normal fetal brains distributed as before… please send me a quote for the same.”

The letter also points to evidence that several Planned Parenthood clinics may have violated federal privacy law by disclosing confidential patient records to StemExpress during the fetal procurement process.

“With approximately 25, 000 patients seeking abortions and pregnancy tests at Planned Parenthood Mar Monte each year, the single Planned Parenthood affiliate exposed the private medical information of hundreds of thousands of women during the course of its relationship with StemExpress,” the letter said.

The pro-life leaders also said the practice was widespread at Planned Parenthood locations around the nation, pointing to known fetal tissue markets at Planned Parenthood clinics in Oregon, Washington, Texas, Colorado, Utah, Michigan, Wisconsin, New York and Washington, D.C.

The letter is signed by dozens of prominent pro-life activists, including Susan B. Anthony List President Marjorie Dannenfelser, Students for Life President Kristan Hawkins and Live Action President Lila Rose.

“The undersigned individuals and organizations urge you during the appropriations process to take into account the investigative findings against Planned Parenthood showing its serious criminal and patient care violations and betrayal of the public trust,” the letter concludes.
