Former Detroit City Council President Charles Pugh has been arraigned in New York City on criminal sexual conduct charges involving a 14-year-old boy a decade earlier.
The Wayne County prosecutor’s office says Pugh was arraigned Thursday and will be extradited to Detroit. Pugh’s next court date is July 7.
The 44-year-old Pugh was arrested Thursday at his home in New York City.
The Associated Press sent an email Thursday to a lawyer who represented Pugh in a recent sexual harassment case.
Authorities say Pugh engaged in sexually inappropriate behavior with the boy, who now is 27, from September 2003 to May 2004. At the time, Pugh was a reporter and anchor at Detroit TV station WJBK. He was elected in 2009 and moved to New York after quitting government.

A former Detroit City Council president who quit in 2013 has been charged with criminal sexual conduct in a case involving a 14-year-old boy a decade earlier.
The Wayne County prosecutor’s office says 44-year-old Charles Pugh was arrested Thursday at his home in New York City, a day after being charged.
He’s awaiting extradition. If convicted, he faces up to life in prison.
