DECATUR, Ala. (AP) - Leaders of a north Alabama utility say their water is now safe to use after mixing it with water from a neighboring utility.

West Morgan-East Lawrence Water and Sewer Authority officials said in a statement Friday that the Alabama Department of Public Health has removed it from an advisory list that prompted officials to tell customers the water was potentially unsafe for consumption.

The water system has both publicly and in a lawsuit blamed industry for chemicals in water pulled from the Tennessee River.

Officials say a purification system is expected to be in operation by September and a permanent solution could take more than three years to build.

Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley said in a statement Thursday that officials will continue testing the water every two weeks.
