ROSEBURG, Ore. (AP) - An Oregon man who died from a self-inflicted gunshot after shooting a woman and then firing at deputies in Roseburg last week has been identified.

Oregon State Police and the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office say 25-year-old Joseph George of Springfield fired at deputies from the woods when they arrived to help the victim.

George then fled as two deputies returned fire. Police searched the area and found George deceased in a field. Autopsy results show he wasn’t hit by any of the rounds fired by deputies.

The victim, a 19-year-old Eugene woman, was seriously injured but is expected to make a full recovery
