PASCAGOULA, Miss. (AP) - A new K9 officer has joined the Pascagoula Police Department.

WLOX-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1Y54WBZ) the 2-year-old Dutch Shephard named Tony is now out patrolling the city with his partner, Officer John Lynd, after weeks of training.

Lt. Doug Adams says it costs roughly $25,000 to purchase the dog, get the officer trained and get the vehicle outfitted.

Lynd says Tony will be an asset to the department, helping to make the city safer.

Tony joins three other K9 officers on the police squad.
