MINEOLA, N.Y. (AP) - A Long Island woman convicted in the DWI crash that killed her best friend in 2013 is heading to prison.
Nassau County District Attorney Madeline Singas says 24-year-old Asya Ulmer was sentenced Wednesday to up to four years behind bars. The Rockville Centre woman was found guilty of manslaughter, vehicular manslaughter and DWI charges in the crash that killed 21-year-old Jennifer Alexis.
Prosecutors say Ulmer’s blood alcohol level was nearly twice the legal limit when she hit a parked tractor-trailer, shearing off the roof of her car.
Ulmer says she takes responsibility for the death of her friend. Defense attorney Fred Brewington says his client’s heart is broken.
