SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) - A 44-year-old man accused of possessing child pornography is being held in Spokane County Jail after federal authorities found he had booked a flight out of the country.

The Spokesman-Review reports (https://bit.ly/1nCXhvS ) that Vladimir Popov was arrested Sunday on investigation of a single count of possessing child pornography.

Authorities searched Popov’s apartment on March 1 and discovered the material on his laptop. Popov, who is Russian and spoke through an interpreter, told police he didn’t believe what he had done was illegal.



Authorities found Popov had booked a flight March 5 from Spokane to Denver and then on to Germany and finally Kyrgyzstan.

Popov’s attorney did not return a phone call seeking comment.
