JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (AP) - A former student at the University of Pittsburgh’s Johnstown campus has been acquitted of raping a female student in her dorm room.
Twenty-two-year-old John McGuire, of Landisville, testified that he had consensual sex with the woman twice in January 2015. The (Johnstown) Tribune-Democrat (https://bit.ly/1pkqvld ) reports a Cambria County jury found him not guilty on Thursday.
The woman testified she met McGuire online then invited him to her room to watch television after he texted her asking to “hang out.” She contends she resisted by holding down her tank top and tried to keep him from removing her bra.
McGuire majored in civil engineering before withdrawing from school after he was barred from campus during the investigation.
Defense attorney David Weaver says, “We’re delighted that this great weight has been lifted.”
