TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) - Law enforcement will be required to file a missing person report within two hours of receiving minimum information under a measure the Kansas House approved Tuesday.

Lawmakers voted 123-0 in favor of the bill, which passed unanimously in the Senate last month. The bill now goes to the governor.

The measure brings the state in line with federal law, which says reports have to be sent to the National Crime Information Center and the Kansas Bureau of Investigation within two hours. Current law requires the reports be sent to those groups “as soon as practical.”

In the case of high-risk missing persons, such as those in danger of harm or death, law enforcement would have to file a report as soon as possible.
