NEW ORLEANS (AP) - The Louisiana Supreme Court has removed Ascension Parish Justice of the Peace Leroy Laiche Jr. from office over judicial misconduct.
The court also Tuesday ordered Laiche, who served in the Second Justice of the Peace Court in Prairieville, to pay back the $14,244 that it cost the state Judiciary Commission to investigate his case.
The Advocate reports (https://bit.ly/1pmACoN ) Laiche faced allegations of rude behavior to courtroom litigants, improper handling of peace bonds and abuse of his authority to issue the bonds and jail people for failing to abide by them.
The court adopted the commission’s findings that Laiche’s “misconduct constituted egregious legal errors.”
The court, which had two dissents in the ruling Tuesday, declared Laiche’s position vacant.
