RIVERTON, Wyo. (AP) - A speeding vehicle collided with a horse and rider in Fremont County, resulting in the horse being put down.

Authorities say the horse rider, a 37-year-old Riverton woman, was treated for minor injuries and released.

The Riverton Ranger reports (https://bit.ly/1MmJ64B ) that the horse was euthanized after suffering a broken leg.

Investigators say the incident occurred about 5 p.m. Saturday on a county road on the north side of Riverton.

There were three women riding horses when they noticed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed approaching them.

Two of the three were able to move out of the way. The third rider was struck from behind.

The vehicle left the scene but was later stopped by police. A Riverton man was taken into custody.
