TAMPA, Fla. (AP) - Tampa police officers fatally shot a man following a brief standoff at his home.

Police spokesman Stephen Hegarty said in news release that officers responded to a domestic disturbance call early Thursday. Officers say the man was uncooperative and armed with a gun, which he pointed at them.

Hegarty says officers talked to him for 45 minutes from outside the house.

He later came out of the house with a gun tucked into a towel around his waist. Officers, using a shield, approached, telling the man to keep his hands visible. He fired once, hitting the shield. Officers returned fire, killing him.

No officers were injured. The woman is cooperating with police.

The officers will be on administrative leave pending an investigation.

Police haven’t released the names of the man or officers.
