FARGO, N.D. (AP) - North Dakota Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem says the city of Washburn violated the state’s open meetings laws by holding committee meetings without providing notice.
The opinion stems from meetings that were held after the Washburn City Commission directed two commissioners to serve on a committee to discuss garbage collection contracts and make recommendations to the commission.
The committee met three times before it made its recommendations at a commission meeting. Stenehjem says the group failed to provide or post any notice of its first meeting and did not fully comply with the requirements for providing notice of a special meeting for its remaining two meetings.
The attorney general ordered the city to create detailed minutes of the committee meetings.
