DETROIT (AP) - A 35-year-old Hazel Park man has been arrested after an undercover police officer found the man’s wife shot and duct-taped in a pickup truck on Detroit’s eastside.

WDIV-TV and WXYZ-TV report that the officer saw the pickup in a field Wednesday.

The driver told the officer the truck was out of gas. He also showed a fake police badge.

That’s when the undercover officer noticed the 33-year-old woman in the front seat. She had been shot in both legs.

Police say some of her belongings had been tossed in a nearby field.

Assistant Detroit Police Chief Steve Dolunt said the officer “saved a life.”

The undercover officer is a member of the Grosse Pointe Park police department and is assigned to a regional auto theft team.
